About

Back when I was a kid we used to hang out on bikes and dream about motocross. Saturday afternoons were spent with our faces pressed up against the glass of the local motocross shop. On the odd occasion we would venture in the only purchase we could make would be sundry items like grips or stickers. The owner didn't seem to mind us rooting around his sticker collection. I did once manage to buy a pair of Fox gloves (leather palms in those days) and some of the infamous Oakley grips, way before they made anything else. These items made a lasting impression on me and today you will find Fox and Oakley products somewhere in my closet.

Mountain biking in the UK was unheard of at the time and Gary Fisher and pals had just started making bikes, so we rode modified road bikes. Modified mostly with riser bars, called cowhorns, Oakley grips and of course, stickers.

There then came a period when motorcycles took over from bikes and it wasn't until 1995 that I started pedaling again. My first mountain bike was just a cheap ATB, this became apparent when the forks started bending from the many (very) small jumps undertaken. Eventually it gained the relaxed steering of a chopper and it was time for a real bike. Julia, the other half of Two Ride, actually beat me to it with a Scott Tahoe, so not to be out done I got a Kona Hahana. We rode those things all the time and started cross country racing. Things changed in 96 when we got a copy of the video 'Chainsmoke'. This inspired us to get suspension forks and in 97 we headed out the mountains for the first time. We spent 2 weeks in the summer of 97 with Alp Active in Les Gets, France and it changed everything for us.

It became apparent that mountain biking was ideally suited to mountains and that going down was more fun than going up, so we bought full suspension bikes and stopped cross country racing. We also found we loved life in the mountains and wanted to explore them more, so in 98 we headed back out to the Alps and visited a few more places. In 1999 we went crazy and moved out to Les Gets for the summer. I started racing downhill marathons like the Megavalanche and got sponsorship from Fox Racing. Things were fine.

We had been having snowboard lessons on and off at the only (at the time) snowdome in the UK until we eventually figured it out, or so we thought. It wasn't until 2000 that we eventually went snowboarding outside and on a mountain.

In 2001 we spent the summer based in Les Gets but traveled to 11 countries European countries, did some racing and followed the Downhill World Cup circus around. Since that time we have been traveling out to the Alps 2 or 3 times a year to go biking or snowboarding along with regular trips to Wales and Scotland for biking.

Tworide.com was started in 2004 to document these travels and let off some creative steam. It has blossomed into the flower you see before you with a little help from a few people. Why not show us your support?

Meet the team

Andrew

Andrew

Andrew rides a Specialized SX Trail with backing from Fox Racing Shox and WTB. He used to race downhill marathons but now just rides them, albeit quickly. He's not a fan of tricks or long boring climbs, favouring technical singletrack that heads down an alp, preferably a big one.

He likes freedom, compassion, big mountains, Oakley riding gear and a cappuccino and cake after a day in the saddle.

Julia

Julia

Julia rides a Orange Patriot. Back in the day she raced a Proflex (yes with the Girvins) cross country before discovering the alps and ski lifts. Julia likes long, flowy singletrack and even the odd short climb. Julia also likes bags, healthy people and Sombrio riding gear.

When not posing for or taking photos for the site, she runs competitively and is training for the Swiss Alpine half marathon. Julia also runs Aquila Sports Nutrition, so prefers to juice veggies after a ride.
